Dr. Elizabeth “Lizzie” Urias was born in El Paso, TX but was raised in Las Cruces, New Mexico for most of her life. She is a first generation, Mexican American, physician and speaks both Spanish and English fluently.
A New Mexico native, Dr. Urias earned her medical degree from the University of New Mexico School of Medicine and completed her ophthalmology residency at the University of Texas Medical Branch/Houston Methodist hospital in Galveston, TX. Upon completion, she was awarded the “silver scalpel” award for excellent surgical skills as well as the “senior resident teaching award” for her dedication to teaching and mentoring younger generation of students.
Dr. Urias pursued a fellowship in cornea, cataract, external disease, and keratorefractive surgery at UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, TX.
Dr. Urias focuses on providing customized treatment for her patients using the latest ophthalmologic advances. Her surgical interests include complex cataract surgery as well as full-thickness and lamellar corneal transplants.
